FIFIG's 25th Anniversary
From 19th to 23rd August 2026
The Imaginary Islands!
In 2026, FIFIG will celebrate its 25th anniversary!
We had to mark the occasion to celebrate this quarter of a century: so here it is, the 25th FIFIG will celebrate ...imaginary islands !
This destination has inspired the festival teams since its inception: a meeting point between the real and the imaginary, the islands pave the way for stories that cross borders and challenge our representations.
This edition invites a poetic exploration of the world. Insularity will be addressed in all its breadth, beyond the borders of reality, to bring forth new narratives: poetic, utopian, fantastic...
If the island is primarily a geographical reality, it also becomes a powerful motif in our imaginations, both intimate and collective, those we carry within ourselves and those we build together. Beyond a simple fictional refuge, the imaginary shapes our societies, permeates our ways of living, resisting, and inhabiting the world. It is through it that common visions arise, pushing us to transform reality. Imaginary islands invite us to think about the world of tomorrow. This is why they hold a unique place in cinema: isolated spaces, outside of time and the laws of the known world, they become the privileged ground for all projections, utopias, nightmares, initiatory adventures, or political fables.
The FIFIG continues its mission to be a space for exchange and resonance for the voices of island peoples. Behind the 'imaginary islands' are revealed above all the imaginations of the islands: the stories of those who inhabit them, intimate, political, and sensitive narratives that shift our perspectives and invite us to redefine our perceptions. This theme thus becomes an opportunity to question our representations, to strip our island imaginations of the fantasies and projections inherited from colonial narratives, in order to move definitively away from postcards and dominant exoticism.
In a world crisis context, let us make imagination a tool for poetic reflection, to help us rethink our relationships with the world. A beautiful way to celebrate the twenty-five years of the festival, by bringing to dialogue the many island issues explored over the editions.
You will also find the traditional international competitions, debate screenings, the selection of films from the islands of Ponant, spotlight events, programming dedicated to young audiences, as well as exhibitions, concerts, performances, and meetings around island cultures.
We look forward to welcoming many of you from 19 to 23 August 2026 to blow out the candles of FIFIG during this special edition, where imagination will settle, feet in the water, at Port Lay!
The call for films for the 2026 edition is now closed!
